A City of Bloomington recycling truck, hauling a full load, caught fire Thursday morning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident thanks to swift action by the driver and prompt response of emergency services.
The incident occurred on Beich Road and Poppy Street while the truck was working its route. The driver noticed smoke coming from the rear of the truck and immediately took emergency action. Along with promptly notifying Bloomington Fire, the driver showed excellent presence of mind by relocating the vehicle to a less populated area with fewer homes, minimizing the risk to nearby residents and structures.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the area is temporarily shut down as crews and investigators work at the scene.
The City wants to reassure residents that this incident will not impact services to the community and uninterrupted recycling service will continue.
