The wet spring has Illinois farmers running way behind schedule. The latest crop report for Illinois says just 24 percent of the state’s corn crop is in the ground. Last year, 98 percent of the crop was planted by this point, and the average is just under 90 percent. It’s the same for soybeans. The report says just nine percent of the bean crop has been planted. Last year, farmers had almost 80 percent of their beans in the ground, and the five year average is just over 50 percent by this point in May.
