Illinois’ senior U.S. senator says foreign hacking is the biggest threat to elections in the state and across the country. Senator Dick Durbin told a panel at a hearing on voter fraud and cyber threats in Washington, DC yesterday that Illinois could have seen chaos in the 2016 election because of hackers. Durbin said someone used a “little wormhole” to get into the state’s voter file, and could have caused real damage. Durbin said the threat from hackers is far more serious than the threat of voter fraud.
