Madigan cross examination continues
Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has returned to the witness stand for additional cross-examination at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Amar Bhachu said he expected to complete his cross-examination sometime Tuesday. Bhachu asked the former speaker Tuesday morning about his influence regarding state board appointments.
Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain are charged with 23 counts of bribery, racketeering and official misconduct.
Translators for court
Non-English speakers in Illinois will have access to free translators during their administrative hearings starting July 1. Thanks to a law signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, all administrative hearing notices must include a section in multiple languages that the recipient can request assistance for the hearing.
The administrative hearings may include family disputes, non-moving traffic violations, unlicensed businesses and more. Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation data shows that 8.7% of the Illinois population is considered limited in their English proficiency.
Coyote pulled from supermarket
A video is going viral that shows a police officer pulling a coyote from the refrigerator section of a Chicago supermarket. That incident took place at an Aldi in Humboldt Park Monday.
Chicago Animal Care and Control took multiple calls about the animal. The coyote was eventually captured and was set to be transferred to Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation. Chicago Animal Care and Control took to Facebook to warn residents that it is coyote mating season, which does mean increased activity in urban areas.
