Corruption defense begins
U.S. government attorneys have rested their case at the bribery and racketeering trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain.
The defense case began with McClain attorney John Mitchell calling former AT&T executive Steve Selcke to the witness stand. Madigan and McClain have pleaded not guilty to 23 counts of public corruption.
Nightclub coming down
Crews have begun tearing down an infamous building in Chicago where a nightclub stampede killed 21 people over two decades ago.
One month ago, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks denied an application for the demolition of the former E2 Nightclub and called for the building to be preserved, but multiple structural and safety issues were noted during a late November inspection.
In 2003, 21 people were killed and 50 others were injured during a fight and stampede.
Baldwin Power Plant staying on
An Illinois lawmaker is applauding news that the Baldwin Power Plant will remain operational longer than expected.
The Baldwin Power Plant in Randolph County, originally scheduled to close by the end of 2025, will continue operations through 2027. State Sen. Terri Bryant said the announcement brings much-needed relief to the hundreds of workers and families who depend on the plant for their livelihoods.
