Colin S. Simpson, 18, of Bloomington, pled guilty on October 23, 2024, to charges stemming from a shooting incident that occurred on March 6, 2023, in the 700 block of West Orlando Avenue. Simpson, charged with attempted aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm, was sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The shooting took place around 6:09 p.m. when officers from the Normal Police Department (NPD) responded to reports of shots fired. On arrival, officers found two victims—one struck in the back and the other in the legs—both of whom were taken to local hospitals for treatment and have since been released.
Following a detailed investigation by the NPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit, Simpson was identified as a suspect. He was later arrested on March 27, 2024, by the U.S. Marshals Task Force on an outstanding McLean County warrant related to the incident. Simpson faced multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, multiple counts of aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and building.
In acknowledging the successful outcome of the case, the Normal Police Department extended its appreciation to the NPD Patrol and Investigations Divisions, the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Task Force for their collaborative work and commitment.
