Witnesses to testify in corruption trial
Federal prosecutors say three former state lawmakers will be the first witnesses called to the stand in the corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.
Former state Reps. Carol Sente, Scott Drury and Lou Lang also testified in the ComEd Four trial, which ended with Madigan co-defendant Michael McClain and three others being convicted of bribery and corruption last year.
Machinists strike
Workers at Eaton Corporation and the B-Line businesses in Troy and Highland went on strike. The International Association of Machinists Local 660 went on strike Monday and union workers at the Pinckneyville plant joined them.
Eaton is a metal manufacturing business that deals in electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power all over the world. Striking machinists said their union representatives and Eaton Corporation leaders are to meet this week.
Chicago rats
For the 10th straight year, Chicago has been deemed the most rat-infested city in the country.
According to the pest control company Orkin, the Windy City’s infrastructure contributes to its dubious distinction, including an abundance of alleys where rodents have plenty of space to hide and feast on trash.
Los Angeles claimed the second spot of the list, with New York City coming in third.
