Over the month of July, the Normal Police Department took part in a speed awareness grant funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation. During the course of the month, Normal PD spent over 108 hours enforcing speed related violations throughout the Town of Normal.
Officers issued a total of 138 traffic citations during the detail with 123 citations being for speeding, 2 citations for cell phone violations and 12 consisting of other vehicle code violations. The detail also prompted 1 criminal arrest.
The detail ran from July 6th to July 31st in recognition of Speed Awareness Month.
The speed enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
