About 10-12 students in her classroom refused to go to class because they are “uncomfortable” and asked their parents to pull them out of this teacher’s classroom. Eric McGrew has two children, twins, who go to Heyworth. Both are 14 years old.
Upon further investigation into Bonner, we discovered her classroom “website” where she has students complete a “Reading Mondays.” Her classroom website is published on the school district’s website on her staff page. On her “Reading Mondays” assignment page she writes, “When it comes to Reading Mondays, I want you to explore texts that interest you. This may be audiobooks, podcasts, documentaries, graphic novels, comic books and even print books.”
Among the material she wants her class to “explore” is a documentary called Money Shot: The Pornhub Story… This documentary looks at the offenses of the pornography industry through interviews with performers and activists. The Netflix documentary is rated for audience 15+ ages.
The Heyworth Police Chief Michael Geriets said there was no report made. He said usually for cases like this the school will conduct an internal investigation and if they believe there is a crime they will make a police report. Cities asked the school district on Friday for any updates in their internal investigation and we had not received word back from the Superintendent Lisa Taylor.
Bonner recently got her doctorate and is a current instructor at College of Education at Illinois State.
