The public is invited to attend two upcoming forums to learn more about a proposal from Home Sweet Home Ministries (HSHM) to purchase property near Main Street and Oakland Avenue from Connect Transit for the purpose of developing a non-congregate shelter program.
The forums will provide a detailed overview of the proposed project and offer an opportunity for all members of the community to learn and share feedback. Both forums will take place in Community Room 1 at the Bloomington Public Library, located at 205 E. Olive Street.
Dates & Times:

Friday, May 2, at 3:00 p.m.

Monday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m.
Members of the Connect Transit Board and the Bloomington City Council are invited to attend the forums to hear directly from the community.
“This is an important conversation for our community,” said Jeff Jurgens, City Manager. “These forums are designed to ensure the public has a clear understanding of the proposal and a chance to have their voices heard.”
HSHM says the project is designed to meet both immediate needs and support long-term solutions to homelessness.
“The proposed project represents a compassionate and practical step forward in addressing unsheltered homelessness in our community,” said Matt Burgess, CEO of HSHM. “The proposed non-congregate shelter will be a fully secured site, staffed 24 hours a day, and designed to provide safe, stable shelter for individuals who are currently unsheltered. It will also connect residents to additional services, including mental health care, substance use disorder treatment, and housing navigation. By creating a welcoming environment with appropriate privacy and support, we can begin to connect people with the services they need and help them progress along the housing ladder toward long-term stability.”
