Heartland Community College will be conducting a large-scale emergency response exercise at the Main Campus in Normal on Friday, April 11.
The exercise, which will simulate a fire in the Electric Vehicle Lab, will involve local first responders.
The drill is centered around the scenario of a lithium-ion battery fire inside the Electric Vehicle Lab. During the exercise, emergency vehicles will be on scene, and non-toxic simulated “smoke” will be present.
Students from Heartland’s Health Sciences division will also be involved in a triage and treatment simulation.
The exercise has been scheduled so as not to interfere with regular classroom operations of the College. There will be brief evacuations of the Advanced Manufacturing Center and the Student Commons Building.
The exercise is set to begin at approximately 1:00 p.m. on April 11. Students and staff not participating in the exercise are expected to regain full access to facilities after the short evacuation portion of the drill concludes.
Heartland Community College is located at 1500 W. Raab Road, Normal, IL.
