COVID grant canceled
The Trump administration canceled $125 million in COVID-related taxpayer funds to the city of Chicago.
City officials say they were notified by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services last Monday that the grant was terminated.
A news release from the city Friday said the move impacts 22 contracts and over 100 staff positions.
Sex trafficking conviction
A Chicago man faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison after being found guilty by a jury of violently sex trafficking five young victims, including a 15-year-old girl.
Federal prosecutors announced the guilty verdict of 33-year-old Dennis Williams, saying he was also convicted of kidnapping two girls. Sentencing is set for Oct. 7.
Man sentenced to prison over fraud
A former licensed real estate professional has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of scheming to defraud multiple financial institutions out of more than $3 million.
Federal prosecutors say 50-year-old Davis Izsak of Chicago was found guilty in 2023 of fraudulently getting residential loans and obtained a 57-foot yacht known as the “Flying Lady.”
