Former cheer coach charged with embezzlement
A former cheer coach in Lake Zurich is facing charges after allegedly stealing nearly $40,000 from the school program. Gabriele Kelly, 26, of Algonquin, is facing two counts of money laundering and two counts of theft after turning herself into authorities. According to the district, police were contacted in February 2024 after financial irregularities were discovered by the business department.
Green beans recalled
Nearly 200,000 cans of green beans sold at Target stores across the country, including in Illinois, were recalled because of “foreign object.” According to the Federal Drug Administration, the recall, initially issued Feb. 12 by Del Monte Foods, applies to Target brand Good & Gather cut and canned green beans. The report comes amid other recalls for recognizable brands, including frozen meals from Lean Cuisine and Stouffers.
State announces $8 million for Lincoln’s New Salem
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced $8 million for improvements to Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site in Menard County. The recreated log village is where a young Abraham Lincoln lived for six years from 1831 to 1837. The funding is in addition to the nearly $3 million in improvements that have already been completed or undertaken at the site under the Pritzker administration, including a roof replacement. Lincoln’s New Salem attracted over 374,000 visitors last year.
