Harris returns to stand in Madigan trial
Former state representative and Illinois House Majority Leader Greg Harris has returned to the witness stand at the bribery and racketeering trial of former House Speaker Michael Madigan.
The longtime Chicago Democrat testified about a consumer protection measure he sponsored and also about other utility-related legislation.
Prosecutors have alleged that Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain secured do-nothing jobs for associates by advancing legislation favorable to ComEd and AT&T.
Illinois to participate in federal maternal health program
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services has announced it has been chosen by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to participate in the new Transforming Maternal Health Model, which seeks to improve maternal health outcomes.
The federal program will provide $17 million in funding over 10 years to help Illinois Medicaid and other awarded state Medicaid agencies develop and pilot a more comprehensive approach to addressing physical health, mental health and social needs throughout the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care continuum.
Officials said most of the resources awarded to Illinois will be invested in provider infrastructure.
