Normal, IL – January 3, 2025 The Normal Police Department (NPD) has arrested a suspect in connection with a reckless discharge of a firearm that occurred in the 1600 block of North Main Street on the evening of January 2, 2025.
At approximately 5:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area near North Main Street and West Raab Road following multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots and an armed individual in the vicinity. Responding officers located a man matching the suspect description provided by witnesses.
Following an on-scene investigation, the suspect was identified as Leon Brown, 45, of Chicago, IL. Brown was taken into custody without incident. A 9mm handgun, believed to have been used in the incident, was recovered and seized as evidence.
Charges Against the Suspect
Leon Brown faces the following charges:
- Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon: Carrying a loaded firearm without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm: Endangering the safety of others.
Authorities also noted that Brown had active warrants from another state.
No Injuries or Property Damage Reported
Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported in connection with the gunfire.

The case remains under investigation, and all charges are pending review by the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office.
