A major winter storm will bring heavy snow to most of central and southeast Illinois from late Saturday night through Monday morning, as well as periods of freezing rain in southeast Illinois. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for most of the area.
Snow accumulations could range over 12 inches in some of the area. Winds look to be strong enough Sunday night to produce some areas of blowing and drifting snow. Snow and ice amounts still remain uncertain; however you should prepare now for disruptions to daily life, hazardous driving conditions, and closures and disruptions to infrastructure.
Below normal temperatures can be expected today and Saturday with highs mainly in the 20s, and lows in the teens. Below normal temperatures will continue Sunday and Monday, then temperatures will turn even colder. Blustery winds gusting 20 to 30 mph can be expected today.
