Madigan trial continues
Former state Rep. Eddie Acevedo has completed his testimony at the public corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain.
In response to several questions from U.S. government attorneys, Acevedo said he did not remember or did not recall and confirmed that he had problems with his memory.
Acevedo served in the Illinois House from 2003 to 2017 and pleaded guilty to tax evasion in 2021. Prosecutors are expected to rest their case this week.
Company fined by OSHA
The U.S. Department of Labor has cited a solar panel and battery storage company with two repeat safety violations after federal investigators found the company exposed workers to deadly fall hazards twice within three months.
Investigators with the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration observed employees of Sunrun Installation Services Inc. of Des Plaines working without required fall protection while installing solar panels at two residential homes in the Chicago suburbs.
OSHA cited the company for two repeat safety violations and proposed $288,000 in penalties.
Park grants announced
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has announced more than $55 million in grant funding was awarded to 100 local park projects throughout Illinois.
Established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, officials said the cost-sharing program between state and local governments helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects.
Thirty-nine counties around Illinois received grant awards, including Cook, McLean and Sangamon counties.
