Teachers union responds to editorial
The Chicago Teachers Unions is criticizing a newspaper editorial about teacher’s chronic absences in Chicago Public Schools.
The Chicago Tribune reported that over 41% of teachers were absent from their classes for 10 or more days during the 2023-24 school year while making a median salary of $95,000. The union posted on its X account that the Tribune Editorial Board unfairly targeted working mothers and ignored the realities of “caregiving, illness, and the physical toll of teaching.”
