The Normal Police Department has arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a shooting that injured one individual on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
At approximately 2:01 PM, officers responded to the 200 block of Sandra Lane after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel from the Normal Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, authorities identified and arrested Matthew Hyatt, 20, of Normal. Hyatt faces multiple charges, including reckless conduct causing bodily harm, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
Detectives with the Normal Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the incident. The charges against Hyatt are pending review by the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Police emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No further details about the incident or the victim have been released at this time.
