Japanese subsidiary announces Illinois expansion
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has announced that Sysmex America, Inc., a subsidiary of a Japanese company, will expand its operations in Illinois.
The company, which manufactures medical diagnostic equipment, will expand its northeastern Illinois facilities in Lake County. New investments will create 110 new full-time jobs and retain nearly 550 existing jobs. The announcement came as Gov. J.B. Pritzker travels to Japan.
Respiratory virus season
The Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding the public that along with fall, October brings the start of the traditional respiratory virus season.
The department is urging Illinoisans to use tools like vaccines that can safeguard against illnesses that typically surge during the fall and winter, including COVID-19, flu and RSV. Public health leaders also stress that one of the best ways to reduce transmission of viruses is to stay home when you are sick to reduce transmission to others.
Bat alert issued
The Chicago Department of Public Health has issued an alert for a possible bat exposure at a concert venue last month.
During the Goose concert on Sept. 12 at the Salt Shed, a bat landed on someone attending the show. According to health officials, bats in and around Chicago have been known to carry rabies, although not all bats are rabid.
