Hundreds impacted in firearm enforcement detail
The Illinois State Police recently conducted numerous firearm enforcement details in counties across the state.
The enforcement details from June 24 through July 19 focused on individuals who have become the subject of a Firearms Restraining Order or Clear and Present Danger, or received a criminal conviction, among other reasons.
Officers completed 192 details and brought 673 people into compliance with state law. As a result of these efforts, 318 individuals transferred firearms out of their possession.
Jewelry stolen in heist
Over $1 million in jewelry was stolen from a store inside Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. According to police, the suspects cut through drywall to get inside Marquise Jewelers.
Police report during the overnight hours of Thursday, Aug. 1, at least six people went into the store by cutting through the wall from a vacant store next door. The thieves also covered surveillance cameras to avoid being recorded.
Dolton officials say funds are low
Three trustees from the Village of Dolton called a special meeting Monday. The trustees said Mayor Tiffany Henyard would not allow them to put items on the regular meeting agenda, so they held their own meeting before the regularly scheduled one.
During the first meeting, trustee Kiana Belcher said the financial situation in Dolton is so dire that she doesn’t know if the village will be able to make payroll at the end of the month.
One of the expenditures the board said they never approved was four SUVs that make up Henyard’s police security detail, which has already cost the village $250,000.
