Carle Behavioral Health in Bloomington announces an upcoming opportunity for community members to engage in conversations about mental health with its team of child/adolescent and adult psychiatrists. Community Conversation on Mental Health is a free event on Monday, May 6, 2024, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Center for Natural Science building on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University, 201 E. Beecher St., Bloomington, IL.
Mental health issues are complex and challenging, but having a conversation is a great place to start. Participants will hear what mental health and psychiatric care can bring to those struggling and to the community. The panel of medical experts includes Rachel Immen, MD, psychiatrist; Burgundy Johnson, DO, child/adolescent psychiatrist; and, Alyssa Wood, DO, child/adolescent psychiatrist. Those attending the event will also have time to ask questions and engage in the conversation on a personal or professional level.
“We are celebrating Mental Health Awareness month by connecting people to discuss this important topic, Dr. Johnson says. “We need to keep discussing mental health and sharing our thoughts, feelings and experiences to decrease stigma and make people feel less alone. Attendees should leave feeling more hopeful about mental illness and our local community because we do have reason to hope.”
The event will offer light refreshments. Parking will be available in the lot across from the Center, at the corner of East St. and Beecher St.
Though the event is FREE to the public, those interested are requested to register ahead of time.
