On Friday & Saturday, April 5 & 6, 2024, New Illinois will hold the fifth session of a Constitutional Convention for the proposed new state. The event will once again be held at the Chateau Hotel & Conference Center, 1621 Jumer Drive, Bloomington, IL. The Friday evening and Saturday presentations will be open to the public.
On Friday evening, Amanda Piker will be speaking. She founded Concerned Citizens of Manteno, and is an activist against that Gotion Chinese battery factory.
Saturday afternoon, data analysts Ken and Jodie Zitko, who conducted a 2000-hour analysis of the Illinois voter registration database while working for a candidate for the U.S. Senate, will speak. One shocking finding was that there were over 300,000 votes from the 2020 election missing or deleted from the Illinois voter data prior to the conclusion of the federal retention period of 22 months.
New Illinois is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with the mission of educating Illinoisans about their right under the U.S. Constitution, to pursue the formation of a new state. The Constitution requires the United States to guarantee to every state representative government. But in Illinois, state government is dominated by one county—Cook, with 40% of the population. Sixty percent of the people live in other counties and lack a meaningful voice. Urban and rural areas have different needs, interests, cultures, and economies. Illinois passes laws and adopts policies that may be in the best interest of a densely populated city like Chicago but not the rest of the state.
Friday evening dinner will be followed by speakers Robin Miller, activist on the central Illinois pipeline issue, and Loyola University Finance Professor Bill Bergman. Tickets will be available for a VIP meet-and-greet.
Saturday morning will feature Professor Bergman, whose interest is the economic viability of the new state, and will include a question-and-answer time. Illinois State Senator Chapin Rose (51st District, Champaign), a supporter of New Illinois, will join us. After lunch, Larry Mulch, New Illinois State Vice Chairman and Hancock County Committee Chairman, will host a discussion and will answer questions about New Illinois.
Saturday afternoon, the two bodies of the legislature, Assembly and Senate, will meet to discuss progress on the state constitution and resolutions, slated to become the laws of the new state.
