The Illinois Department of Transportation has started diverting traffic to Veterans Parkway following a tragic accident earlier today at the Interstate 55 and Interstate 74 merge.
The incident resulted in a fatality and immediate measures were taken for safety and the smooth flow of traffic in the affected area.
At approximately 12:30 PM a collision involving two truck-tractor semi-trailers and a passenger vehicle occurred leading to the closure of the left and middle lanes of I-55. The temporary detour to Veterans Parkway aims to minimize disruptions in travel and maintaining the safety of motorists in the area.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution, follow posted detour signs, and adhere to speed limits when traveling through the area. Additionally, motorists are reminded to remain vigilant and patient, especially during peak travel times, as increased traffic volume may cause delays.
