Food assistance scam warnings
The Illinois Department of Human Services is warning residents about a scam involving the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. A spokesperson with the agency said the scammers have targeted both SNAP and non-SNAP recipients around the state.
Officials said IDHS will never call or text asking for anyone’s information like their PIN number, their Link card number or other personal information. Officials recommend Link card holders change their PIN monthly.
Voters eject Gotion supporters in Michigan elections
Five township office holders in Michigan who approved the construction of a battery plant by a Chinese company with similar plans in Illinois have been voted out of office.
In Mecosta County’s Green Charter Township, residents voted to recall the supervisor, two trustees, the clerk and the treasurer. Gotion, Incorporated has similar plans to build a battery plant in Manteno, Illinois, which has also been met with opposition by local residents.
Biden visits Illinois Thursday
President Joe Biden will visit northern Illinois Thursday. He is scheduled to meet with United Auto Workers in Belvidere who recently reached a deal with Stellantis.
The automaker has agreed to reopen the assembly plant in Belvidere and also add a new battery plant on the property.
