Sexually explicit material was found in a classroom after videos and images from students were shared with their parents. Eric McGrew sent us the material and we immediately asked the Superintendent about the material discovered.
Lisa Taylor, the Superintendent, said she had not heard from any students or staff regarding the book “This is Gay,” which explains how boy-on-boy and girl-on-girl sex can be best performed.
In the book: “Women are that a little bit harder than men, who have everything dangling out in the open. The clitoris is a super-sensitive cluster of nerve endings that when rubbed, kissed or even licked can make a woman orgasm (which is a good thing.)
The teacher’s name is being conceal by this publication for ethical reasons as there is an investigation by the school district on going.
“We saw a large amount of parents who were very disturbed by this, some were very emotional and rightfully so,” said McGrew, the father of the child who had access of the sexually explicit books. “Ever parent got to voice their opinions. Now it is in the school’s hands and how they go forward.”
There were about 80-90 parents and citizens in attendance before the full school board.
The board sat quietly and respectfully as they heard the concerns of about 8 people who addressed the board over the issue of sexually explicit material in an eighth grade English Class.
The book in question was not in the school library but in the teacher’s own materials.
Carl Hinshaw, from the Heyworth Buzz, who was in attendance, said public comment (some emotional) expressed almost unanimous disapproval and shock.
Some parents asked if the school board knew about this problem.
After all testimony, the board stated that they shared the concerns that were brought forth and the right of parents to review such materials. They promised a complete and thorough investigation.
