On the last day before the election Esther Joy King finished her Road Trip to Victory tour traveling from Peoria to Bloomington for an event at the McLean County Republican Headquarters. King is running as a Republican for the U.S. House in the Illinois 17th District. She brought her message to Bloomington one last time.
“This campaign has ben about running for a strong economy and safe communities,” King said. “People in our community right now they are hurting and they need help to bring down the cost of living,” she added.
King is animated about election day saying, “We have all the momentum in this campaign. It’s really exciting to be a part of. Everyone, especially with the environment like it is right now, undecideds, everyone is coming our way.”
Cities asked King about her opponent’s claims that her resume has been exaggerated and she replied, “When even CNN is fact checking the Democrat’s commercials against me and saying that they are blatant lies, then you know they are lying about me. The Democrats, everything they are saying about me is false and untrue. And the reason they are attacking me is because they can’t run on the issues.”
Traveling the last leg of King’s tour with her on Monday was Desi Anderson, Republican candidate for the Illinois State Senate in District 46. We asked her about her prospects.
Anderson told us, “I think we might have a coin flip and the only reason I say that is what we are seeing and hearing at the doors. And the momentum is there. And we are feeling optimistic and really at the end of the day it’s going to be based on voter turnout. And that is one thing you can never predict.”
We sat and talked with Anderson as her son Bono explored the joys of walking. I asked her if he had “learned to walk while she was away” referencing the old Harry Chapin song. She said no but he did take his first steps at a get out the vote campaign event on Halloween. I asked if he was trying to get out the vote or get at the candy? “Probably both,” Anderson said as we laughed.”
It’s appropriate that our last discussion of her campaign ended with us talking about Bono. After all, he has been a real star during her effort.
