Republican Tim Butler of Springfield is the current holder of the Illinois State House District 87 seat. However, as a result of redistricting he is running for reelection in the 95th district. That leaves the door to the 87th office open for Republican Bill Hauter, a Morton doctor and member of the Tazewell County Board. Hauter has no opponent in the general election on November 8, 2022.
The district consists of portions of Woodford, Tazewell, McLean, DeWitt, Sangamon and Macon counties as well as all of Logan County. The McLean County cities of Danvers, Funks Grove, McLean and Stanford are within its boundaries.
Hauter, a two time board certified anesthesiologist and emergency medical doctor, defeated Tazewell County Treasurer Mary Burress of Pekin in the June 28 Republican Primary.
Hauter had this to say after his primary victory in his press release, “I am grateful to the voters who placed their trust in me to represent their conservative values into the election to be our next state representative.”
“This was a victory for my motivation and message – running and winning on the issues as I did throughout the campaign, and most especially it was a victory for conservative reform that Illinois desperately needs,” Hauter said.
After her primary loss Burress posted this on her Facebook page, “Although we didn’t receive the results we wanted tonight, I am proud of our campaign and hope our political leaders begin to understand the many challenges families and businesses are facing.”
Earlier this week Hauter applauded school districts, “opting out of state controlled and mandated sexual indoctrination of our youngest school children – starting in kindergarten,” and described the program as “awful.”
Last week Hauter shared his anger regarding how much some state workers at the Chicago Transit Authority are paid and the amounts of the pensions they will receive referencing a Center Square article.
According to Center Square, “A transit employee in Chicago made more than $300,000 in 2021, making him the highest-paid employee for the system. Andre Cruz, a signal maintainer for the Chicago Transit Authority, made $302,075, according to transit payroll records.”
Since the primary Hauter has also participated in the Hopedale 4th of July parade, campaigned with Scott Preston who is running as a Republican in the 91st District, had breakfast with Butler and attended the Tazewell County Republican Women July event with Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey.
Hauter has campaigned in Lincoln enjoying a night out at Guzzardo’s and Spirited Republic. He also had breakfast with State Senator Sally Turner and Mark Landers who is running for Logan County Sherriff. In addition he met with Logan County officials at the courthouse and visited the Logan County Tourism bureau.
Hauter was elected to the Tazewell County Board in 2020 and is also part of many other organizations such as the Morton Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Farm Bureau. He is a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland. Hauter was born and raised in Morton, Illinois. He lived for 15 years in Mackinaw, IL, but moved back to Morton in 2018.
In interviews with the State Journal Register Hauter has stated, “Since COVID happened, I’ve been marinating in COVID. I’ve been so disappointed and opposed to the state’s response.” “I became motivated and compelled by what I see as a COVID tyranny.” “This COVID tyranny, which was counter-productive, really compelled me to run for this office,” he said.
