Bloomington-Normal has seen some loud protests but no riots or violent vandalism yet.
“An anonymous collective called Jane’s Revenge is threatening to create chaos when the U.S. Supreme Court releases its decision in Dobbs versus Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The decision is expected to come … next week,” Wrote Reason magazine last Tuesday.
According to Wikipedia, “Jane’s Revenge is an American far-left extremist group, which has perpetrated and threatened violent attacks in the name of defending abortion rights and “has committed acts of firebombing, vandalism and arson.”
Influence Watch says, “Jane’s Revenge is a far-left extremist group which claimed responsibility for an attack against an anti-abortion group’s office in Madison, Wisconsin, in May 2022 after leaks revealed that the U.S. Supreme Court was considering overturning the Roe versus Wade decision that found a constitutional right to abortion. “The group’s name is a reference to the ‘Jane Collective,’ an underground organization in Chicago that helped women obtain abortions prior to the decision.
Cities 92.9 spoke with the Bloomington Police Department before the ruling came down to see if they are aware of this organization and are planning for responding to any trouble that might arise.
Sergeant Kiel Nowers said that the Department is aware of Jane’s Revenge. He stated that the department has not received any specific threats. He can’t tell us about any special preparations the department might be taking because that would be giving away information that could help persons that might be planning to riot.
Nowers said, “We are prepared for any events that may occur but we hope that everyone stays peaceful whatever the decision.” And he added, “If anyone does hear of any specific threats please let law enforcement know.”
As recently as June 15 Jane’s Revenge wrote in a blog, “You have seen that we are real, and that we are not merely pushing empty words. As we said: we are not one group but many. You have seen us in Madison WI, Ft. Collins CO, Reisertown MA, Olympia WA, Des Moines IA, Lynwood WA, Washington DC, Ashville NC, Buffalo NY, Hollywood FL, Vancouver WA, Frederick MA, Denton TX, Gresham OR, Eugene OR, Portland OR, among others, and we work in countless locations invisibly. You’ve read the communiqués from the various cells, you’ve seen the proliferating messages in graffiti and elsewhere, and you know that we are serious.”
Reason magazine wrote about a recent Wall Street Journal Opinion piece published on Tuesday, “noting that flyers ‘popping up around Washington’ issue a ‘DC CALL TO ACTION NIGHT OF RAGE. THE NIGHT SCOTUS OVERTURNS ROE V. WADE HIT THE STREETS YOU SAID YOU’D RIOT. TO OUR OPPRESSORS: IF ABORTIONS AREN’T SAFE, YOU’RE NOT EITHER.’ They’re signed ‘JANE’S REVENGE.'”
Wikipedia agrees with the Jane’s blog regarding the group targeting, “crisis pregnancy centers in New York, North Carolina, Washington, Wisconsin, Ohio, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Iowa and potentially Oregon,” and adds “Citing attacks claimed by Jane’s Revenge, Republicans in the U.S. Senate have called on the Department of Justice to put more resources toward investigating violence against pro-life organizations.” Wiki also says, “The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has confirmed that the group is the subject of an ongoing investigation.”
“Jane’s Revenge claims membership throughout the United States and a willingness to commit future attacks, though neither the organization’s size nor existence has been independently verified,” according to Influence Watch.
Regarding the attack in Wisconsin Influence wrote, “Police reported that the office was first hit with a Molotov cocktail that didn’t ignite, and then a fire was started that burned a wall. Two windows were also smashed, … The outside of the building was graffitied with the anarchist insignia, and the numbers ‘1312’”
1312 stands for ACAB meaning “all cops are bastards.”
Cities 92.9 reached out to the Normal Police Department and the McLean County Sheriff’s Department regarding this story but did not receive a response from either agency.
Congressman Rodney Davis, since the ruling, has said it is a victory for life.
This is a historic and incredible day for Life and the unborn in America, a day that all of us in the pro-life movement have been praying for and working towards. The Supreme Court was absolutely right to overturn previous, wrongly-decided abortion decisions. pic.twitter.com/vh1ciN6NmT
