Story by Kevin Woodard
On Wednesday night, May 25, the Unit 5 School Board unanimously approved new procedures for sex education for eighth and ninth graders that will take effect next school year in the fall. The district will be offering a National Sex Education (NSES) program. These procedures include sexual orientation and gender identification as subjects. Several persons spoke out during the meeting asking the board to vote no on the matter. The opposition was led by Angels4Freedom.
The NSES program states, “The National Sexuality Education Standards: Core Content and Skills K-12 (Second Edition) were developed by the Future of Sex Education (FoSE) Initiative, a partnership between Advocates for Youth, Answer and SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change that seeks to create a national dialogue about the future of sex education and to promote the institutionalization of quality sex education in public schools.
During her public comment Christine Davis, of Angels for Freedom, provided a history of SIECUS saying, “These standards are based on research by Dr. Alfred Kinsey of the Kinsey Institute. Dr. Kinsey is a well documented pedophile whose work includes years of molesting children into orgasm to support his methodologies. … His research is the foundation of the NSES standards.”
Davis also referenced Planned Parenthood stating, “In 1964 the Medical Director of Planned Parenthood, Dr, Mary Calderone, who had worked closely with Dr. Kinsey, raised seed money from Hugh Hefner (founder of Playboy magazine) … to start this organization SIECUS. Her husband Dr, Frank Calderone, was the Chief Administrative Officer of the World Health Organization (WHO).”
Davis continued, “SIECUS evolved and in 2012 it created a council to develop the National Sexuality Education Standards. This council includes members from … Penthouse Forum. So you have Playboy and Penthouse on one side, that’s the porn industry, you have Planned Parenthood on the other side, that’s the abortion industry, and the WHO, all three of them drafting the same standards that you are using today in this education system.”
Mary Carlisle referred to the NSES document saying, “One quote from the NSES document says ‘Education should avoid hetero normative approaches, aim to strengthen young people’s capacity to challenge harmful stereotypes.’ Your children will learn heterosexuality is a harmful stereotype. Another quote, ‘All adolescents have a right to comprehensive confidential support in sexual health services.’ Does this mean that the parents of these children will be excluded?”
Carlisle continued, “Another quote, ‘Gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation and sexual identity are often evolving and changing during adolescence.’ And another, ‘the developmental process for young people often involves experimenting with many different identities’.’ … And another “As sexual development continues to progress most youth will eventually identify themselves with a gender identity and a sexual orientation though some may not.'”
Carlisle completed this train of thought with “They specifically use the words often and most. But the truth is those experiences are rare. Yet the children will be lied to about this. They (those supporting NSES) will deliberately and knowingly confuse children into believing heterosexuality is the exception. The truth is heterosexuality is the norm.”
Alex Williams spoke in support of the school board saying, “I have never personally had a challenge with the education that’s been given to my children. … I tend to believe that they (the school board) will do the right thing by our students. And whatever is brewing with this sex education curriculum I don’t have any reason to believe that it will not be age appropriate for our students…. I trust their (school staff) professional judgement until I have any evidence they are being taught age inappropriate, then I will revisit. I just want to share a message of support.”
During discussion of passing the consent agenda, which this measure was a part of, School Superintendent Dr. Kristen Weikle responded to a questions from board member Jerry DeHaai and mentioned that, “Currently the High School Grade Nine is the only … task force that has done the work so far to have changes for next year. So that is the only grade that will be seeing any changes. That curriculum can be found prior to the start of the school year on he Unit Five website under Departments under Curriculum and Instructions. It will take anyone in the community to our website with all our curriculum information.”
Given the accusation Davis made regarding pedophilia directed towards Kinsey it may be appropriate to consider Kinsey a bit further.
According to the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, “Dr. Alfred Charles Kinsey was an American biologist, professor of entomology and zoology, and sexologist. In 1947 he established the Institute for Sex Research which is now known as the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University.”
According to Wikipedia, “Kinsey wrote about pre-adolescent orgasms. … This information was said to have come from childhood memories, or from parent teacher observation. Kinsey said he also interviewed nine men who had sexual experiences with children and who told him about the children’s responses and reactions.”
Wikipedia also records, “Little attention was paid to this part of Kinsley’s research at the time, but where Kinsey had gained this information began to be questioned nearly 40 years later. It was later revealed that Kinsey used data from a single pedophile and presented it as being from several sources. Kinsey had seen the need tor participant confidentiality and anonymity as necessary to gain ‘honest answers on taboo subjects.’ Year’s later, the Kinsey Institute said the data on children … came from one man’s journal (started in 1917) and that the events concerned predated the Kinsey Reports.”
Regarding Mary Calderone, Wikipedia has this to say, “Mary Calderone … was an American physician and a public health advocate for sexual education. Her most notable feat was overturning the American Medical Association policy against the dissemination of birth control information to patients. Calderone served as president and co-founder of the Sex Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) from 1954 to 1982. She was also the Medical Director of Planned Parenthood. She wrote many publications advocating open dialogue and and access to information at all ages.”
According to comprehensivesexualityeducation.org, “Dr. Mary Calderone, a Kinsey enthusiast, had been the Medical Director for Planned Parenthood when in 1964, using seed money from Hugh Hefner (the founder of ‘Playboy’ magazine) she founded the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS}”
The wiki article for Mary Calderone also mention Frank Calderone saying, “… she interned at hospitals and clinics, one belonging to Dr. Frank A. Calderone, whom she married in 1941. Frank Calderone was then a district health officer in New York and eventually became the chief administrative officer of the World Health Organization.
