A local business owner and a Bulgaria native has announced her candidacy for IL State Senator in the 46th District….as a Republican.
Desi Anderson made the decision to enter the race this past week in hopes of unifying an increasingly divided society and to be a fresh voice in Springfield.
Through statewide redistricting initiatives in 2021, the 46th District now encompasses large sections of Bloomington-Normal along with much of East Peoria and Peoria.
The district includes both airports in Bloomington and Peoria, Illinois State University, Bradley University, IWU, ICC, HCC, State Farm, Country Financial, CAT and Rivian Automotive.
Anderson grew up in Bulgaria as an orphan before being adopted by a family in Oregon at almost eight years of age.
Anderson has dedicated her life in serving non-profits. But Anderson isn’t new to the Bloomington-Normal area, in fact she has served the area as an intern on the Hill.
Anderson was a Congressional intern to the Rodney Davis office, she settled in the Midwest, earning a degree with a double major at Indiana University.
In 2019 she married her husband Nick at their property in Heyworth, IL which serves now as their business, The Hesed House Venue.
“I had an upbringing that many people cannot relate to and I always dreamed of coming to the United States, admiring what I heard about it as a child. In every way I am now living the American Dream, and it is my heartfelt desire to see that not slip away from people in these current times. I am running to give people hope that their voice matters again, that career politicians do not have to have undo influence on our families,” said Anderson. “Central Illinois has become home for me and I want to be someone that the great people of this area, big business, and small business can entrust to fight for them and care about them on issues that really matter and increasingly directly affect our lives.”
Anderson said there is a diverse group of people and business here and she said she wants to magnify everything that is good about the 46th District while fighting for the people of the districts’ liberties and the future in Springfield.
