Bloomington Police we dispatched early Saturday morning on October 9, to a residence in the 1300 block of N. Hinshaw Ave. for a “shots fired” call for service.
Officers arrived at about 4:15 am to learn that a man had pointed a gun and fired it at an adult female victim after a dispute in a driveway of a residence.
The suspect missed and fled the scene in a vehicle. The officer on scene relayed the suspect information to other officers who were also responding.
Ultimately, BPD officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle near the area of Seminary Ave and Ewing St. They were able to place the driver, who was the sole occupant, into custody without incident.
During the investigation, four firearms were seized inside of the suspect’s vehicle.
Arrested was Detertorian D. Sanders, 26, of Normal, Illinois. Sanders was arrested for:
– AGG ASSAULT/DISCHARGE FIREARM
– AGGRAVATED DISCHARGE OF FIREARM / OCCUPIED BUILDING
– AGGRAVATED ASSAULT / DEADLY WEAPON
– UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPONS / CARRY / POSSESS CONCEALED GUN
Sanders was taken to the McLean County Jail where he remains in custody. At this time, there is no bond information to release. Anyone with information should contact BPD dispatch at 309-820-8888.
All suspect(s) are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in the court of law.
Chief Jamal Simington said this about the incident, “Members of the Bloomington Police Department responded to calls from community members, immediately and without hesitation, to quell and investigate this alleged violent incident. Their responsiveness and the public’s assistance in this matter led to illegal guns being removed from the streets. We are happy to report no one was injured in this incident. I am thankful for the high level of bravery and commitment from our staff who work hard to improve community safety through collaboration.”
