The District 87 Superintendent said the district is planning meetings with several community organizations and leaders that address concerns and issues happening in the community that will at times impact our schools.
“Regarding the public comment section at the board meeting last Wednesday, we have procedures the public needs to follow that includes signing up to speak prior to the start of the meeting. Four individuals signed up prior to the start of the meeting and all four were allowed to speak. One individual attempted to address the board in public comment that did not sign up to speak prior to the meeting. Mrs. Thomas reached out to that individual, [Katie Glenn,] the next day,” said Barry Reilly, District 87 Superintendent.
Mark Wylie, school board president, has echoed these comments made.
Katie Glenn, a D87 parent, in attendance claimed she was denied the sign up sheet. When she approached the microphone shouts from the audience said, ‘Let her speak.’ The microphone was turned off.
Glenn has made numerous claims that her son has been bullied “maliciously” by students, staff and administration. Cities asked Reilly and Wylie about these claims.
“We do not discuss information concerning specific individual students with anyone other than the parents or guardians. There is board policy regarding complaints and investigations. There are no pending investigations of any employee in the district,” said Reilly.
