Illinois lawmakers are sending a bill to Governor Pritzker that clears the way for a casino in Chicago.
Legislators on Saturday approved a measure to change the tax structure to allow for a Chicago casino. The governor has pledged to sign the legislation when it reaches his desk.
Mayor Lightfoot praised the legislature’s action for making “the possibility of a financially viable Chicago casino a reality.” She added that the move is “decades in the making and represents a critical step toward shoring up the city’s pension obligations, as well as driving huge levels of infrastructure funding and fueling thousands of new jobs for all of Illinois.”
