Tuesday afternoon, detectives with the Normal Police Department arrested Richard Roundtree for circumstances surrounding the death of his minor daughter.
Roundtree is charged with felonious endangering the life or health of a child under the age of 18 and accused of conduct which makes him eligible for an extended term sentence under section 12C-5 (d) of the Criminal Code of 2012.
As noted during a media conference of November 20, 2019, the circumstances surrounding harm to the minor child referenced above remains an open and active matter which is under continuous review. The Normal Police Department and McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office continue to work jointly analyzing the nearly half a terabyte of electronic data, dozens of witness interviews and statements, medical records and other information gathered in this matter.
What charges are brought, and when they are filed, in this case are the result of the ongoing, deliberate, and methodical process which began in January of 2019.
Roundtree is the father of 8-year-old Rica Roundtree who died after being kicked in the stomach by Roundtree’s girlfriend, Cynthia Clay (Baker).
